Fitness for surgery in Colorectal patients. posted Sep 11, 2014 by irene.fitt I have just been to a meeting at which the impact of 'neo-adjuvant chemotherapy' on Enhanced Recovery was discussed by Prof Mike Grocott (Southampton). He presented evidence to suggest that general 'fitness' for surgery (as demonstrated by CPEX testing) decreased during the interval between neoadjuvant therapy and surgery. However, this could be IMPROVED by putting patients through a training / rehab program during this interval.. It was suggested that this may lead to better outcomes (fewer complications, reduced LOS) after surgery
I have emailed this out as well. This was not me attending the meeting however one of our anesthetists, I am interested to know if anyone is involved in this area or anymore info they could share?
Thanks
Irene
